Designers develop interesting social media notification devices with 3D printing

Every day we receive various notifications from the digital space, whether it is a few fans of WeChat, some people on Weibo @ä½ , or you received an email, many people have already It is commonplace. But French designer Pierre-Felix So is exploring the impact of these notifications on our lives in a very interesting way.

Pierre-Felix So has just graduated from DSAA LAAB in Rennes, France, specializing in product design. Prior to this, he used his own new technologies, such as 3D printing and Arduino, to create projects to explore our relationship with media and technology objects. In his graduation project, Push Revolution!, Pierre-Felix So created three objects that turned virtual notifications into material things, exploring and even changing the way we respond to social media notifications.

The first of these three objects, Pierre-Felix is aptly called "Ego", mainly for dealing with standard, or what he calls "superficial" notifications, such as fans in social media or friends. New news and so on. Unlike the audible prompts on smartphones, the way to inform Pierre-Felix of this type is to use soap bubbles. Because this information is usually not meaningful to the user, sometimes it may be more important than the content. Pierre-Felix So explained that his use of foam is also based on the reason that users are aware of the number of notifications through a quantifiable substance, while also realizing that the information is short-lived and insignificant.

It is understood that this object is made of Corian material, with a dial on the front for users to choose the social media platform they want to receive bubble notifications, of course, you can also choose all social media. When designing this object, Pierre-Felix So made several prototype and design iterations using 3D printing.

Its second object, also prototyped with 3D printing technology , is called "Wow", which handles more personal notifications, such as text messages, photos, and emails. A balloon is attached to the device, and each time you receive a notification, it swells. Designers want to use balloons to represent the excitement of users when they receive messages. This is an object related to happy, exciting and interesting messages.

The third object is called "TacPad" to help users manage and remove these message notifications more efficiently. This object is similar to a small keyboard that can be connected to your computer, but the buttons on it are unmarked, and when pressed, there is a feeling similar to our pinch bubble wrap. Pierre-Felix So is a joy to bring to the user here, especially the joy of guilt. Therefore, he believes that the use of pinch-frozen packaging can perfectly turn the notification of deletion into a liberating, cleaning process. To mimic the feel of a bubble wrap, Pierre-Felix So used a silicone material to make the TacPad.
