1. Investment:
The current digital proofing system is generally composed of hardware and software. The hardware is mainly color inkjet printers, and the most commonly used in China are mainly HP, EPSON, etc .; the software mainly refers to the color management software specially developed for digital proofing, which adjusts the inkjet printer's various ink output according to different ICC PROFILE To complete the color correction, make the proofs and the printing basically consistent. Depending on the size of the proofing format, the price of the printer is about 20,000 to 100,000; the price of the software is about 20,000 to 50,000 according to the function; the price of the computer required to install the software is about 10,000 to 30,000 depending on the configuration. Most foreign manufacturers have stopped producing traditional offset proofing machines. The old single-color proofing machines produced in the market in 1990 need about 150,000 to 200,000, the old two-color proofing machines need about 22 to 300,000, and the equipment use space is 20 square meters. About 30-50 square meters plus some auxiliary equipment, second-hand no warranty, inconvenient maintenance.

The general digital proofing process is simple, without the need for film and printing, just print the pages completed by various computer software directly into PS files, transfer them to the computer where the color management software is located, and select print. The ICC PROFILE file is done when the device is installed, and it can be called directly every time it is used. If you find the problem, make the modification in the computer and repeat the above work without loss of film and plate.
The process of traditional offset proofing is relatively complicated. The pages created in the computer need to be printed out first, and then subjected to printing and printing, and finally proofing. Once an error occurs, it is troublesome to revise and re-proof, and at the same time cause waste of film and plates.

3. Speed:
It is not difficult to see from the above two process diagrams, after the production is completed, the digital proof can directly output the sample through the computer, while the traditional offset proofing still needs to go through the processes of output, printing, and printing to complete the proofing work. Taking an HP printer as an example, when the ink coverage area is 100%, it can print an average of 6 square meters per hour (including network transmission and color management software processing speed); while the traditional offset proofing machine can print about 4 square meters per hour, but includes output , Proofing, printing and other processes, the proofing speed is not easy to calculate.

4. Quality:
Because the color gamut of color inkjet printer ink and printing ink are different, there will be a little difference in some colors, such as red and green, but some color management software can adjust for a certain color without affecting other colors, such as Color Tune Pro. Some inkjet printers have also improved the ink to make it more suitable for digital proofing, such as Epson 7600, 9600 series. If the color adjustment of digital proofing is done well, the color can basically match the printing, and the digital proofing is not strict with the operator and the quality is stable. As long as the color adjustment curve is consistent, no matter who the proof is when the proof is the same.
The paper and ink of traditional offset proofing are the same as traditional printing, and the color gamut space is basically the same, but the printing method is different and the overprint rate is different. Therefore, there will be some small gaps between the two, but the hue is the same. Due to the complexity of the traditional offset proofing process, there are many factors affecting each process, so the color quality is unstable, and the operator is required to have rich experience. It cannot be guaranteed that any operator proofs produced at any time are exactly the same. Sometimes due to environmental and personnel factors Makes a big difference.

In summary, digital proofing has some advantages over traditional offset proofing in some respects. As CTP is widely used, digital proofing will also be accepted by more manufacturers.
