During this year's popular science day, the Chinese Paper Society invited experts from the China Paper Association to do on-site answers to questions concerning recycled paper. Our way out is to change the mountain to deforestation, to plant trees, to protect forests and to develop urban forests. This will become an effective way for us in the future. At the same time, making people aware that the wasteful use of paper is a kind of tree-cutting behavior.

Responsible comrades from the booth of the China Paper Society introduced that at present, major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou have taken the lead in advocating the use of recycled paper, and the recovery of waste paper in other cities is also progressing to a breadth and depth.

According to statistics, recycling 1 ton of waste paper can reconstruct 850 kilograms of paper, which is equivalent to cutting down 12 large trees, or saving 4 cubic meters of wood, saving 150 kilograms of chemical raw materials, reducing 75% of air pollution, and 35% of water pollution. It can also reduce water use by 60% and energy consumption by 40%.

In 2006, China’s paper consumption amounted to 66 million tons, and per capita consumption was 50 kilograms. Except for one-time consumption, about 50 million tons of waste paper was produced each year, equivalent to 600 million trees. This is a huge resource consumption. At present, the state is vigorously advocating a conservation-minded society. We must plant trees while we care for trees, research and develop new types of technical processing equipment, and we must also do a good job in waste paper recycling and the use of recycled paper.
