New process for sealing of open steel drum lid

The 30-100 liter open steel drum produced by our factory is a special barrel for foreign trade to hold various chemical raw materials. Distribution in many foreign countries, the annual output of about 150,000.
In the past, the sealing of the lid of our factory used the process of attaching the φ6×0.5 high-pressure polyethylene pipe to the bucket cover with bone glue. The cost is high (three people per shift), the cost is high (about 0.25 yuan per barrel), and the plastic is hard and difficult to assemble in winter. Now our factory prepares its own packing, adopts a new process of casting and drying, so that the sealing ring and the lid are integrated. In this way, the quality has been improved, and the problem of the boss of our factory has been solved.
The specific process is now introduced as follows:
1. Raw materials:
Dioctyl phthalate - 5 kg
PVC paste resin - 4 kg
Calcium stearate - 0.3 kg
2. Configuration:
First add the first two raw materials together, until all dissolved, then add calcium stearate, continue to stir until all dissolved. Place the stirred packing in a closed container to prevent curing for a period of not more than 72 hours.
3. Pouring:
Make a special pouring tool and operate it by one person. Turn the lid (turn it with the table) with one hand and control the packing valve with one hand. It is best to have a small flow rate and rotate for 2 weeks with the best quality.
4. Drying:
I made a drying automatic line in our factory, which has a high degree of mechanization. The barrel lid after pouring the filler is automatically rotated in the furnace, so the barrel lid is heated evenly. The heat element adopts this infrared quartz heating tube, and the drying quality is good and the efficiency is high ( 3 per minute).
5. Physical and chemical tests:
(1) Adhesion test:
1 Using a small knife in the groove of the filled lid, cut the packing at intervals of 10 mm in the radial direction, cut it to the metal, and then use a finger to clamp it out. After picking up with a blade, it can be clamped with a sharp-nose pliers, but a small amount of filler is attached to the groove.
2 The bucket cover with packing is bent 90 degrees in the axial direction, and then straightened. At this time, the filler is intact, and the filler falls off after the second bending.
(2) Sealing test: Fill the bucket with clean water and seal it with a padded lid. The bucket was inverted and stored for 24 hours without leakage.
(3) Heat resistance test: Put the dried filler at minus 13 ° C and test it with slight elasticity. The filler elasticity is optimal at 30 °C. At 260 ° C, the filler has a certain plasticity. When the temperature is above 320 °C, the filler has coking.
(4) Acid and alkali resistance test:
1 After shaking and immersing in 98% concentrated sulfuric acid for 24 hours, it turns from white to yellow. The filler ages hard and the quality deteriorates.
2 After immersing in 50% dilute sulfuric acid for 24 hours, the filler did not change and the quality did not change.
3 After immersing in 45B alkaline water for 24 hours, with a small amount of yellow. Hardness and sealing effect are unchanged.
4 After immersing in 30 B of alkaline water for 24 hours, the filler was yellow. Hardness and sealing effect are unchanged.
The use of this filler is a major improvement in the sealing of open-package steel drum lids. Its sealing performance is much better than the original plastic tube sealing, which not only solves the shortcomings of the joints in the plastic tube sealing which are not tightly sealed or peeled off, but also solves the difficulty of hardening the plastic in winter. It also has the advantages of low cost (average cost per barrel is reduced by 0.03 yuan), aesthetics, application, and simple processing. It is a good method for sealing the open steel barrel lid.
