The shaftless drive was founded in 1919 by Nielsen and Petersens. It was founded in Nilpeter Co., Ltd., a printing press manufacturer in the Slagelse region of Denmark. In the 20th century, Nilpeter successfully manufactured a series of single letterpress printing machines. On this basis, Nilpeter built its first flexo printing machine F-200. Looking back, this printing machine exhibited at Drupa in 1977 was a milestone in the design process of modern flexo printing machines. As offset presses continue to develop, flexo and letterpress printing have made Nilpeter one of the most successful and technologically advanced manufacturers in the printing press field.
At the European Label Expo in 1999, Nilpeter announced the latest product in its flexographic printing press, the universal printing system FA-4200 (Advanced Flexo) with standard components. This announcement made adhesive label manufacturers realize that they are under competitive pressure in the traditional markets of the United States and Europe. Due to the short life span of consumer products, producers have begun to introduce new products with shorter time intervals to the market. This means that manufacturers are increasingly facing the need to provide multiple packaging materials based on one resource in a timely manner. Many users of printing presses not only need to expand their market to meet the new requirements of packaging materials, but also need to expand their work to innovate the mechanical design. More and more complex labels, such as in-mold labels, armbands and shrink labels, as well as a variety of materials for packaging, require high speed and softness associated with the production process. This is necessary to meet the requirements of customers and end users.
Nilpeter aimed at the development of FA-4200 in the special requirements of the packaging part and the final development of flexographic printing machines, and because of the traditional dominant adhesive label market, the application of this printing machine is in collapsible folding cartons and flexible packaging. The manufacturing in is unique. FA-4200 is designed according to the concept of a complete standard component, so it inherits the structure of quick habit. The recently developed basic machine module is used for tension units without additional units. These modules create a clear processing function for flexo printing, screen printing, gravure printing, hot and cold stamping, roto-embossing or laminating through plug-in units. A deeper program unit is already in the design, this program unit has a machine that is adaptable and can continue to be developed and upgraded within the scope of application. Different machine models include narrow width rotary machines ranging from 420-520mm width, they have the 16-inch printing width required in label manufacturing nowadays. The GLS (green line system) UV drying facility with closed cooling circulation device is also composed according to the standard. Therefore, the formation of ozone, which is often regarded as a problem in flexographic printing, can be reduced to a minimum.
At Drupa, Nilpeter introduced the FA-4200 flexo printing press to a wide audience. Subsequently, at the European Label Expo in 2001, this series of printing machines developed using shaftless technology attracted wide attention from industry experts. Although Nilpeter has used servo drive technology in his machine for quite some time, the FA-4200 is the first serial printing machine from Slagelse without a mechanical axis as the main drive. The Synax200 motion control system from Bosch Rexroth is used here. It is a pioneer in shaftless drive technology and has been used on more than 1,000 devices worldwide.
In the equipment concept developed by Nilpeter, each processing unit and basic equipment module used for network transmission has an intelligent servo drive. So far, the traditional mechanical drive technology has been replaced by modern servo drive technology.
