[Abstract] The present invention discloses a printing press system (20) having a moisture content detection capability. Many printing operations, including seamless or lithographic printing presses, use ink and water emulsions (24) for printing operations. It is important that the emulsion (24) maintain a proper ink-water balance. The disclosed system employs a sensor (30) that can be positioned in the ink chain (28) of the printer (22) to continuously monitor the degree of water content in the emulsion (24). The sensor (30) may be a capacitive sensor that detects a change in the dielectric constant of the emulsion (24) and, based on the result of comparing the measured value with a predetermined expected value, prompts the printer operator to pay attention to the imbalance.
