Chinese and American chemists promote nanomedicine research and development in Hunan

Recently, three top American chemists came to Hunan University to discuss how to prepare functional nano-medical materials with better chemical methods, and Yu Ruqin and Yao Shouzhuo, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tan Weihong, director of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biosensing and Metrology at Hunan University After Chinese scholars exchanged ideas, they discussed with Hunan University and Changsha National Bio-industry Base leaders about the development of cooperation in chemical biology and nanomedicine.

The three American scientists visited were: Professor of Northwest University, Academician of the American Academy of Sciences, Academician of Engineering and Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences Chad Mirkin; Professor of the University of North Carolina, Academician of the American Academy of Sciences and Academician of Engineering Joseph M. DeSimone; Professor of Tufts University, United States Academician of the Academy of Engineering David R. Walt.

"These scientists have a common feature, that is, their work not only stays in research, but also advances the research and has achieved a very good industrialization." Tan Weihong said.

During the talks, American scientists expressed strong interest in cooperating with the school to establish a world-class research platform. "In adopting this model, the most important thing is to hire world-class talents to form a competitive team, so that the research platform has a magnet-like nature, attracting more global talents and advanced equipment, so as to radiate the world." Mirkin Say.

It is understood that the vigorous development of nanomedicine today has broken the boundaries of the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology, and has attracted much attention from various countries. The 2008 Xiangshan Science Conference determined that China and the United States should conduct bilateral discussions on a regular basis and reached a consensus: Nanomedicine research should be marketed as the ultimate goal.

Yu Ruqin said that in the field of biomedicine, some foreign companies already have strong innovation capabilities, and should have a clear understanding of this. There is no way to simply rely on counterfeiting and follow others.

"Nano scientists should not stop at only preparing nano and publishing articles, but should think about the next step, that is how to really benefit nanotechnology to society." Tan Weihong said.
