Sealing machine to meet the needs of egg packaging

Simpson Egg Company is a family company that produces and packages eggs. The company now uses the Loveshaw () carton packer, which can package eggs of different sizes in transit. Before the new carton sealer was put into use, Simpson Eggs manually packaged all cartons. Without much explanation, the process of manual packaging is very difficult. Simpson Eggs produces 1 million chicken eggs each day. The company provides a large number of packaged eggs for retail, which requires the optimization of the egg packaging carton handling process. Simpson wanted to automate the sealing of egg packaging operations and did not want to invest in fully automated packaging equipment. Eventually they discovered the Little David 16AE system.

The 16AE system can distinguish between multiple sizes of containers. Pneumatic devices lower the tape heads to allow packaging of specific size cartons.

Simpson's egg packaging is both manual and automated, depending on where the egg product is ultimately delivered. The system produced by Diamond Systems () produces eggs that are sized, inspected, and graded, and the eggs are loaded into a polystyrene foam carton provided by Dolco Packaging. Eggs can be hand-loaded into crates for shipment to local supermarkets, or corrugated boxes (provided by several different companies) for packaging.

Ninety percent of Simpson's egg processing processes have been automated, so adding a carton sealer that can perform sealing operations quickly and economically is critical. Rich Simpson said: “In the past, our sealing operations have been time-consuming and laborious.” “We use our own brand for egg packaging and also for other merchants’ proprietary brands. The packaging process must therefore be efficient and stable. Eggs are For products that are prone to deterioration, (to be successful) freshness is a key factor. Providing timely delivery to the market is an important capability. The LD-16AE carton sealer does reduce the labor required and so far, in addition to routine maintenance, Basically no maintenance required."

Atkins diet is popular, people are full of fear of mad cow disease, these are driving the demand for eggs, poultry egg production industry is facing rapid growth. Some companies have maintained double-digit growth rates since last year. According to the statistics provided by the Egg Industry Facts website of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s American Egg Commission, US poultry production reached 648 million eggs in December 2003. In 2003, a total of 73.93 billion fresh eggs were provided for egg production in the United States.

So, Simpson's production organization is moving fast. 40% of the company's daily production is packed, so the company particularly favors durable machines. Simpson uses 4,000 boxes a day to pack up to 14.4 million eggs. Rich Simpson said with a smile: "That's really a lot!" The machine has some other advantages, such as good reliability, less maintenance, and faster returns.

The LD-16AE (AE stands for type A, poultry eggs) boxing function identifies a carton with only a "flap" upwards. It sends signals through the camera sensor to the tape head and adjusts it to the height of the carton, 8 to 12 boxes per minute. The speed is precisely packaged. The machine uses a tape of 1,000 yards per roll and has been specifically designed with a powder-coated steel structure to accommodate Simpson Eggs' 15 to 30-pack carton sizes.

In production, the Diamond multi-channel device inspects eggs, sorts them by size, cleans them and press them into foam cartons. The carton then passes through a hole in the wall and enters the packaging room. In the packaging room, the foamed egg boxes are manually packaged and the carton is packaged.
